Construction of the 139-kilometer road that connects Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng province started in 2015.
Creecy says several communities who have encroached on the road have been identified in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. “It’s a very difficult project, later on as we move along you will see encroachment to the road reserve and what it means is that there have to be negotiations with each and every person who has either set up a house or an enterprise, at least there has too negotiations. we prefer to negotiate. But if necessary we’ll have to expropriate.”
A new contractor has been appointed to complete the upgrade of the notorious Moloto Road, according to Creecy.Creecy says the upgrade of road should be completed in 2025. “That contractor actually abandoned the contractor in 2016. They went into business rescue. Sanral tried to give them an opportunity until 2019, but it was impossible. We have now appointed a new contractor. I think what we can see from the speed which now they are continuing. We can expect that it will be completed in the required time.
