Nuremberg is the home of the original Christmas Lebkuchen, so why not head there for a last-minute festive getaway

Holidaymakers in search of a magical festive retreat this winter might want to venture further from UK borders. The beautiful Bavarian heartland hosts the historic city of Nuremberg, famed for being the birthplace of authentic Christmas Lebkuchen. Lebkuchen, a kind of traditional German gingerbread, is predominantly savoured during the holiday season. Nuremberg's famous Christmas market, Christkindlesmarkt , will be running from November 29 until December 24.

The establishment has also been recognised with Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Award in 2021 There are several must-visit attractions in Nuremberg, including the Aldstadt, the city's historic district. The Kaiserburg Nurnberg, the city's imperial castle, along with the city walls, is regarded as one of Europe's most impressive medieval fortifications.
