I grew up in the Southern Hemisphere - New Zealand to be exact - where Christmas is strictly a summer affair. There's no winter warmer drinks or roasted chestnuts - but having moved to London, I'm getting ready for my first ever winter Christmas.

Growing u in New Zealand, where Christmas is a summer event, I've had no experience of winter warmer drinks or roasted chestnuts. However, having relocated to London, I am preparing for my inaugural winter Christmas.

Instead, we planned to venture out on a Sunday afternoon, hoping the throngs might have dispersed somewhat. As there weren't many people in line at that time, my boyfriend and I had a carriage all to ourselves, which was ideal given my fear of heights. I attempted to peruse some of the stalls but found myself wedged against the wooden tables by the crowd behind me, making it difficult to examine the goods on offer.

Following that, it was time for another first - a mulled cider. As a big fan of cider in its original form, I anticipated this would be a hit for me, but I was sorely mistaken. I'm not one to leave things half-finished, but sadly, I couldn't get more than halfway through the tiny cup before admitting defeat and discarding it.
