A new Channel 4 documentary offers a glimpse into the hard work and dedication that goes into creating the beloved Belfast Christmas Market.

A new Channel 4 documentary is set to take a behind-the-scenes look at the Belfast Christmas Market in its 20th year. 'Secrets of The Christmas Market' airs on Channel 4 on Thursday, December 19 at 8pm and tells the story of Belfast’s much-loved annual festive market, meeting the organisers and vendors from the annual outdoor market at Belfast’s City Hall.

Belfast-based independent production company Afro-Mic Productions filmed and produced the documentary over the last few months and are delighted to be able to share it this Christmas. The documentary takes viewers into the heart of the action as the countdown to Christmas begins. It’s no mean feat. A description reads: 'There are 106 chalets to construct, Santa’s grotto to design, much loved local bars to recreate on site, and a giant Christmas tree to install - all before the grand opening. 'The construction is only part of the story however, as once complete, stallholders from far and wide join local traders in the race to stock and decorate their chalets with an amazing range of products, hoping to attract as many customers as possible from the thousands who visit daily. 'Now in its 20th year, the market is bigger than ever, and its hardworking team have just two weeks to transform the empty grounds of Belfast City Hall into a magical winter wonderland, ready for 1.2 million eager visitors.' Emma-Rosa Dias, MD of Afro-Mic Productions, shared her pride in being able to take viewers behind the scenes of one of Northern Ireland's most popular Christmas events.
