The man pleaded guilty to the rape of his then 13-year-old granddaughter.

A 63-year-old man has started to serve his life term after the Mitchells Plain Regional Court on the Cape Flats sentenced him yesterday.National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says the man was out on parole for raping his daughter a few years earlier.Ntabazalila says the court found the man unfit to possess a firearm, work with children, and placed his name on the National Register for Sex Offenders.

The first-ever Gender-Based Violence Study in South Africa shows that almost 40% of women in the country experience physical and sexual violence in their lives.Emotional, economic, and controlling behaviours were also prevalent, with younger and Black African women disproportionately affected.
