The Australian’s Jennifer Oriel says a there’s a “purist line” that Liberals shouldn’t interfere in the free energy market but noted that Australia’s “highly subsidised green market is not a free market”.

Instead, she said, the country gives preferences to renewable industries and green technologies over coal resulting in “unfair competition”. Ms Oriel said the government “has to act” as it looks like “some serious price gouging is going on” and “has to be corrected”. Image: Getty

Whether or not you believe in climate change, we only have a predicted 150 years left of coal reserves. That isn’t a long time... so shouldn’t we be forward thinking? The scarcer it gets, prices will rise unless we invest in innovation.

... but then, predictably, she completely fails to mention the billions in subsidies given to FF industries and technologies.

“unfair competition” Are complaining that it's cheap!? That's unfair? because Coal can't compete with cheaper renewables auspol

“unfair competition” .... is when we let one industry pollute our air, our waters and bring about Catastrophic Climate Change and we let tax payers, not the industry pick up the bill. That is unfair... Auspol

Thats untrue. Coal gets billions in diesel subsidies, and pay zero fees for contaminating ground water and using the atmosphere as a rubbish tip. Id sure like to get my fuel paid for while i dig up money, & be able to just dump my household waste in the nearest waterway.

Ummm, diesel fuel rebate?

Let's add up all the tax dollars spent on coal in Australia over the last hundred years and compare it to renewables shall we.... 🤣

This is just wealth transfer it has nothing to do with green energy! Green energy is a lie and can never be stand alone!

For a long time, the government only invested in coal technology and the coal industry. That wasn't fair on the renewable industry. Are you going to whinge about that?

What is Sky the one channel army against reform on pollution ?

And she'd be 100% correct!
