ECORSE/RIVER ROUGE, Michigan - Some steelworkers who cheered U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs on foreign steel last year are now being laid off, an unintended consequence of his America First policy as United States Steel Corp reacts to sagging demand from automakers reeling from higher steel prices.

Steel prices peaked in May 2018 and have retreated to pre-tariff levels after American factories boosted production and demand weakened. City leaders said that without the tariffs, the situation could have been worse, noting that as far back as 2002, the local plant was on the verge of closing. Last week, U.S. Steel warned that falling steel prices would make its third-quarter loss steeper than expected. It said the blast furnace at the Great Lakes Works plant will remain idled through at least the end of the year.

So much winning!!!

woops! pity they did't listen to the lib-tards..

cost a lot for steel sector,

Dont feel bad for them. They are getting exactly what they voted for. Hope they enjoy unemployment.

Oh well. Everyone told the the trump presidency would be a disaster.

Can't blame people for hanging on to hope, however when you vote conservative a worker always gets screwed.

I believe “unintended consequence” should probably read “collateral damage Trump is willing to sacrifice...”

'Reuters will cut 3200 jobs by 2020.' CNN

Bahahah! Sorry not sorry. Remember when sane people warned you? He’s going to hurt you? Remember? I ‘member.

'Trade wars are good and easy to win,' said a very stable genius.

So much for the 'America first'. Enjoy while it last dudes.

Can’t blame those with no hope for being fleeced by a conman.

Trump is just giving his supporters what they voted for.

🤔

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Doubtful Trump's tariffs will bring back jobs in these steel towns. Imported steel will be still cheaper. These steel workers will suffer for a long time even with Trump tariffs. How long they want to suffer jobless while loving & voting Trump their Saviour? American voters!

You gotta feel bad for people who established towns and livelihoods on doing honest hard work only to have politicians who were in bed with industries move their jobs overseas for cheap labor (NAFTA). They did everything right and STILL to this day still get fucked by politicians
