The building industry is putting pressure on the government to fast track infrastructure spending after the Reserve Bank suggested a lack of new housing investment could curb economic growth.

The RBA's deputy governor used a speech in Sydney to warn of a looming downturn in

housing construction and said the trend could shave as much as one per cent off GDP.
