Facebook will launch its new human-curated service for surfacing news articles at an event Friday

Facebook will launch its new human-curated service for promoting news articles at an event Friday, a company spokesperson told POLITICO today.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg teased the rollout of the "News Tab" feature at a House Financial Services Committee hearing, his first testimony on Capitol Hill since last year.“Later in this week we actually have a big announcement coming up on launching a big initiative around news and journalism where we’re partnering with a lot of folks to build a new product that’s supporting high-quality journalism,” Zuckerberg said.

“I think that there’s an opportunity within Facebook and our services to build a dedicated surface tab [for] people who really want to see high-quality curated news, not just social content,” Zuckerberg said at today's hearing. The session, called to address Facebook’s plans for a new cryptocurrency, veered into other topics, including Facebook’s handling of political speech and its impact on journalism.
