He has helped build the Kimberley's largest privately-owned cattle empire, now Jack Burton has set his sights on a new frontier.

Kimberley pastoralist Jack Burton has resigned from the Yeeda Pastoral Company, which he helped found.Jack Burton arrived in the Kimberley as a young ringer almost 30 years ago, with nothing more than a dream and a passion for cattle.

Since that time, Jack and his wife Vicki have built the region's largest privately-owned cattle empire, Yeeda Pastoral Company, which covers 1.2 million hectares across seven properties. The family business runs 80,000 head of cattle and manages Northern WA's only abattoir, which processes upwards of 1,300 head of cattle a week.

But now the 51-year-old is looking to new horizons, after stepping down as chief executive officer and selling his multimillion-dollar stake to the company's other shareholders. "I loved the Kimberley [and] saw the opportunity; so we bought Kilto Station in 1993, started Yeeda in 2000 and we kept growing the whole thing ever since then," he said."So we as a family decided we really wanted to get back into what we loved — the cattle side of it rather than the meat side of it."
