PETALING JAYA: Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) called on the Perak government to publicly reveal the contents of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked with a China-based company to carry our rare earth exploration work in the state.

PETALING JAYA: Sahabat Alam Malaysia has called on the Perak government to publicly reveal the contents of a Memorandum of Understanding inked with a China-based company to carry our rare earth exploration work in the state.

Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar had recently witnessed an MoU signing between the Perak Mentri Besar Incorporated and Chinalco GXNF Rare Earth Development Co Ltd to"systematically" explore and mine rare earth in Perak. "As environment matters fall under the purview of Mestecc, we wonder if this particular ministry has been consulted and its approval obtained," she said.

"A 2013 study on China's ion-adsorption rare-earth resources, mining consequences and preservation had exposed alarming findings," she added.
