It’s been a tough year for the gaming industry. While we’ve had some excellent games, there have also been frequent layoffs, restructurings, studio closures, global conflicts, and more. Some developers also took delays to allow for the better welfare of their teams, or to deal with entirely unexpected issues. This is on top of the more usual reasons for delays: making a game the best it can be, or else taking the time to realise it’s grown bigger than expected.
Some devs simply wanted to avoid busy release months and give their own game more time to breathe. For whatever reason, the gaming landscape for 2023 looks a lot different now than it did when we started the year.
