Seven men pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court here today to charges of offering non-existent investment schemes online earlier this month. The accused, Wong Yu Teng, 26; Lim Yong Aun, 30; Chin Chun Ze, 29; Ong Wye Chun, 38; Choo Wee Jen, 28; Jeremy Thiah Lae Jin, 33, and Cheong Wymun, 33, made the plea after the charges were read before Magistrate Chia Huey Ting.
They are accused of committing criminal conspiracy by deceiving victims into investing in the non-existent Multiply Finance investment scheme through Facebook and WhatsApp, contrary to Section 420 of the Penal Code. All the accused are alleged to have committed the offense at Block C-41-08 The Clovers, Lengkok Merbah 3, Taman Sri Bayan, Bayan Lepas at 10.15 pm on December 2 last. The prosecution is conducted under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of six months imprisonment or a fine or both, if found guilty. The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor R Lushini, who applied to the court to set bail at RM8,000 for each accused. Counsel Pang Chuin Keat, representing the accused, applied for the bail to be reduced to RM5,000 for each accused, considering his clients had no fixed income and no previous criminal record. The court allowed bail of RM5,000 with a local surety for each accused before setting March 25, 2025 for mention and submission of documents
