South African Breweries has called for strong excise tax policy certainty for the liquor sector to enable better planning, as the industry battles material volume declines due to high input costs and a consumer under increasing pressure.
SAB CEO Richard Rivett-Carnac said on Wednesday that not only should there be more consistency in the actual annual excise tax increases, with them being more in line with consumer price inflation, but industry should be provided with a three-year guidance to help them with planning.
