A White House spokesperson told The Times that the president was not aware when he was vice president that his son had reached out to the embassy on Burisma's behalf. John R. Phillips, the U.S. ambassador to Italy at the time, said he received a lot of letters and did not remember Hunter Biden reaching out to him.
