GLOBAL green bond issuance reached $169 billion in Q3 2024, surpassing the quarterly average of $160 billion, according to ING's latest Sustainable Finance Pulse (Issue 4, 2024).While green bonds performed strongly in Q3, overall sustainable finance issuance for the quarter totaled $385 billion globally, falling short of the $400 billion quarterly average. ING anticipates a continuation of the slower pace into Q4, with market activity concentrated in the first half of 2024.
Looking ahead, ING expects a rebound in 2025, with issuers increasingly turning to environmental, social and governance offerings to drive demand and reduce costs on new issuances.'We continue to have meaningful conversations with first-time clients interested in sustainable finance solutions and established clients returning to explore new opportunities in this space. The market has seen encouraging momentum, particularly when well-known corporates completed notable sustainable finance transactions this year. Looking ahead to 2025, our ongoing discussions with clients indicate continued interest in sustainable finance deals, pointing to potential growth opportunities in this market,' said Jun Palanca, country manager at ING Philippines. The Sustainable Finance Pulse is ING's quarterly publication, analyzing trends and developments in sustainable finance markets and offering insights into issuance figures, trends, and market drivers across various instruments, markets and participants.Society is transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
