The vote is expected to fail but is part of a plan from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to put Democrats in a tough spot ahead of the November election. Democrats oppose the GOP stimulus because they say it falls short of the country's needs. Instead, they favor a $2.2 trillion measure called theBusiness Insider obtained a copy of the latest Republican bill, formally called the Delivering Immediate Relief to America's Families, Schools and Small Businesses Act.
The latest bill doesn't provide another round of the popular $1,200 checks to individuals pushed by President Donald Trump. But it would give people $300 a week on top of their unemployment payments and allow more businesses to get forgivable loans for keeping their workers on payroll.
