Ontario bidding wars are so bad one company is giving employees a $20,000 down payment

The national average selling price of a home is almost 40 per cent higher than this time last year, the Canada Real Estate Association said in June. Crozier also has offices in the Greater Toronto Area, where the average home price has reached a staggering $1.1-million, but smaller markets like Collingwood haven’t been immune to escalating prices.

“As a leadership team [we] put our heads together to say, ‘how can we help these people in their personal lives?’” he said in an interview. “We feel, fundamentally, that personal growth and career growth really go hand in hand.” “We’re not buying houses for people,” he said. “It’s just meant to give them a shot in the arm to get them over the edge so they can enjoy the dream of homeownership in such tough circumstances.”

Crozier currently has more than 30 open job postings, but Mocan said the program’s potential to attract talent is something he sees as a side benefit.
