I HAVE already devoted this space to my criticism of this whole enterprise where universities are weighed and vetted as if education is a commodity.

I was once again piqued when my social media space became populated by friends boasting about the ranking of their respective programs with the release of EduRank and its recent assessment of universities and colleges.Once again, the University of the Philippines Diliman was at the top, followed by the De La Salle University , Ateneo de Manila University , University of Santo Tomas , and University of the Philippines Los Baños , making up the top five universities in the country.

and at the De La Salle College of St. Benilde and not at UPLB. I was furious when I learned that the teacher in the review class where one of my daughters was enrolled demeaned , where my younger daughter obtained her degree, is even known to outrank that of other schools, including UP Diliman. For them, UP is the better and more prestigious brand.I have also known of parents doing the opposite, which is avoiding UP for fear that their children would become communist activists or that they would be exposed to liberal ideas that might turn them into atheists, agnostics, or become overly woke and just simply weird.

ranked 3rd and 4th in forestry even though neither offers a degree program in that discipline. UP Diliman is second to UPLB in the agricultural science program, except that only UPLB offers the program.
