In the latest incident, five men were arrested this week amid allegations of being construction mafia.
"We work well with some officials so we cannot paint all government officials and politicians as corrupt. But there are also those who don't want us to be empowered. They want to control the projects from within. They have their own construction companies whilst working in government and make decisions about these projects using their own forums. There are also those who use the name of the federation to cause disruptions.
"Our discussions were positive. It gave us hope that after 10 years we are making progress. A national imbizo is being planned where we want to be guided by the role of politicians in projects. We also hope that government recognises the Federation as a partner in regulating business forums and the upcoming national imbizo by the Department of Public Works will be the ideal platform to begin those discussions.
