A fresh push for greater support of Australian-made clothing ignores one key fact: consumers have stopped supporting local labels in favour of ultra-fast fashion.

What sector employs more people than mining and the arts, and exports more in dollar terms than the wine industry, but is routinely dismissed as frivolous and superficial?
