The Union representing workers at an Orkney mine, in the North West says it is being provoked by the company.

Sixty-nine mineworkers are protesting what they describe as the arrogant, brutal and exploitative attitude of the mine owners.NUM president Joseph Montisetse said,"Silicosis has been eating the lungs of workers for decades."

"It's not a place for people to stay…its very bad, people have chronic diseases, they have not washed for four days now." "We started wage negotiation in September last year, we agreed about the 8-percent, when we were about to implement, the Chinese overruled everything." "We have been in and out of CCMA, that why the workers decided to stay underground, they are being provoked by the company.'
