Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says a pilot project was rolled out in the Eastern Cape.

The South African Social Security Agency says it intends to roll out facial recognition as a security measure across the country.

The pair discovered fraudulent Social Relief of Distress grant applications in their names and the funds were being paid into bank accounts that did not belong to them. “So, we need to make sure that those individuals are catered for. So that they are able to come to a Sassa office and do the verification,” explains Letsatsi.
