A recent trade probe by China, which could result in a hit of about a $1-billion to Canada’s canola industry, contributed to a surge of advocacy in November with lobbyists calling for Ottawa to respond by supporting the domestic biofuels market.

The private member’s bill was introduced by Conservative MP Ben Lobb in February, and proposes an exemption for farmers from the federal carbon tax for the propane and natural gas used in drying grain.
