A review of the Small Business Fair Dismissal Code has recommended an overhaul to reduce the number of employers paying thousands in mediation to settle claims.

Small Business Ombudsman Kate Carnell says the current code is not fit for purpose with employers often forced to pay 'go away' money so a case doesn't progress to court.

Ms Carnell wants a dedicated small business division to be established within the Fair Work Commission aimed at dealing with claims made against small business employers. The division would appoint case managers and assess claims at an early stage.

Labor calls for Darwin Port to be reclaimed from Chinese company | Sky News AustraliaLabor MP Nick Champion is urging the Morrison government to take a “prudent step” and nationalise Darwin Port which is currently being leased by a Chinese-affiliated company.\n\nIn 2015, the Northern Territory government announced it had awarded Chinese company Landbridge a 99-year lease of Darwin Port for $500 million.\n\nMr Champion says the government used a “narrow, commercial lense” when making its decision to lease the port.\n\nThe Labor backbencher told Sky News that despite China's reservations, it’s “sensible now we have a deteriorating international environment to take this port into national hands”. \n\nThe government says it has no plans to buy the port back, but One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson has expressed “grave concerns” about China's growing influence in the Pacific. \n\n“One day they’d love to have their hands on Australian, and they’re slowly taking it not by stealth but by cunning,” she said. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia Totally support this. China is a national security issue. They are an existential threat to our sovereignty. The more these fools call out china being an evil nation the more chance they will destroy us. Wish these idiots leave them alone then they will never be a threat. Stop pushing our country to have enemy's Yep, very bad decision by CLP. Just goes to show how States and Territories can undermine our national security. We are a laughing stock. Get it back!!..Please...
