The seafood marathon is on 🍤

More than 130 tonnes of prawns are expected to be sold as 100,000 people flock to the Sydney Fish Market for its annual 36-hour "Seafood Marathon", which began at 5am on Monday and ends at 5pm on Christmas Eve.

Prawns are the crowd favourite, with 130 tonnes expected to be sold this Christmas time, Mr Stollznow said.Prawns remain at the same prices they were in winter, selling from $30 to $38 a kilogram for medium to large prawns. The same prawns have sold for up to $50 a kilogram in previous years, Mr Stollznow said.

For those looking for something different he recommended a "show stopper" whole fish, such as a four-kilogram king fish or six-kilogram Red Emperor as a centrepiece. They're "fish you can't eat unless you're sharing with 10, 20 people," he said. Customers are expected to visit the fish market in the thousands up until about 3am on Christmas Eve, when there is usually a lull before the rush begins again at 5am.
