Esperanza Friedman shares the lessons she's learned as the founder of J & J Artificial Limb and Brace.

Esperanza Friedman was raised in a Latinx family that taught her about the power of paying it forward and doing good in the world, so when she had the opportunity to create a business that did good, she took it.

Since its founding in 2001, Friedman has led the team at J & J Artificial Limb and Brace to do just this. Together they’ve worked to create braces and artificial limbs that change lives and a business that is profitable and growing. “[Wells Fargo] approached me about this project in late November I was excited to get involved,” shares Friedman. “With the idea in mind that I would have an opportunity to tell my untold story and potentially serve as inspiration for other Latinas and small businesses, I immediately accepted.”

My primary goal was to get my business up and running but money was not coming in for the first few years, so I had to get a side job to make ends meet. My husband who is also an orthotist/prosthesis himself was a huge support in building this business. We both worked extremely hard to build our dream together. The money that was coming in was leaving twice as fast and bills for the business and home were increasing.
