“Calmer heads didn’t prevail over this,” Florness said. “Nobody reached out to me to say, ‘Really? I am getting fired over a tweet?’ It’s an incredibly unfortunate event.”Regardless, Florness told the newspaper that the company’s reaction followed the law. And while he admitted that the firing may have been “an overreaction” and he may have responded differently, he said he was “not going to second guess” his staff’s decision.
But this year, he and his co-workers received a bottle of Edmonton-made “Get Sauced” barbecue sauce, which retails on Amazon for $5.99, and a wooden scraper branded with Fastenal’s logo. The day before New Year’s Eve, Mehaidli was called in for a meeting with his manager where he said he was fired on the spot.
Asked if he has any regrets about sending the tweet, Mehaidli said: “I wouldn’t say it’s regret … I let my emotions get the best of me at first. That’s all I’ve got to say.”
I've been cleaning for the same people / business for 5 years now and they have given me NOTHING for Christmas not even a card ,and guess what I dont CARE because I know they are cheap . Shit happens I guess ..
The guy was a cry baby, he should have been fired. Companies are not obligated to provide 'gifts', I presume he was a paid employee correct? He bitched, and was fired has only himself to blame.
Should have traded that bottle of BBQ sauce and spatula up for a slightly more valuable item and then kept on trading up until he had a house in Vancouver...
Is this still a story. Research some real news
The company brought this on themselves. An appropriate response is to have private conversation with this worker. Firing him was the act that brought this to our attention. DoBetter
That brand of BBQ sauce makes great pulled pork....
I spent 4 years as Executive/HR for 7 Managers at one job. For Christmas they gave me someone else's Cosmetic 'Free Gift with Purchase' and a chipped mug.
The bbq sauce saga continues...
