Elon Musk said college is "not for learning" and that you can basically learn anything you want to for free.on Monday, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO said he wants to make sure Tesla recruitment doesn't require a college degree, and that "ideally, you dropped out and did something."
Musk has a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania but dropped out of a Ph.D. program at Stanford University to launch his first company, Zip2, which later netted him $22 million after it sold. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO shared his views on college during a fireside chat on Monday at. During the audience Q&A portion, Musk was asked how colleges and industries can make it easier for students to afford college, as well as create more access for underprivileged students.
"I think colleges are basically for fun and to prove you can do your chores, but for they're not for learning," Musk said, which was followed by applause and a few laughs.
He is a prick.
elonmusk hire me pls
Someone send this to all the girls who used to post their GPA on Facebook
KirkegaardEmil i use to disagree, then i went to university.
Elon has the wrong opinion of himself - like bill gates. No exceptional abilities. Elon did NOT create paypal, electric cars, batteries, tunnels, subways, rockets, nor anything else. Here's a genius idea: E = mc^2 Created by a woman: Émilie du Châtelet
WommyTolinski I guess Im going to work for Tesla!
In general, I think it gives you different solutions and ideas to navigate within or find a new solution 😊
😃😂
Basic education should lay emphasis on language then the rest can happen.
InnovDiaries Peter Thiel said a degree is now a four year party
Stop smoking pot Elon and STFU.
I think it depends on the degree subject. But it is true that degrees need to move towards more practical applications than just theoretical.
Man physics and economics might be a fun degree but a full engineering degree whilst working to pay your rent is not fun.
he is in the same camp as peter thiel
'For fun'. At who's expense? Elon is here misleading people. So, people who come from nothing with the hopes of getting a university degree to get ahead in life should dump school then? He comes from generational wealth, so he can afford to talk this way.
Malvina Reynolds said it best. A degree demonstrates one can conform to a social, employment setting. It does not, by itself, prove intelligence or ingenuity.
Them 1st 2 years of college are ass!!!
He's got a point
elonmusk is right. Africa has been ruined by academics who know nothing - but just to steal.
Fuking Elon Musk!
I agree. Self made and inherited networks are better evidence of exceptional ability 😂
Bout to drop 80k just to see this 😂😭🤦🏻♂️
I agree but when you apply to a company they always first ask what degree do you finish,id say going to college is like a 'FORMALITY'.
sulemani007 u did it well
True. With the exception of applied fields with practicum, most courses are as follows: 1. Learn directly from the assigned reading 2. Listen to prof reiterate assigned reading in next class 3. Listen to dumbass classmates fill their 'participation' grade.
Agreed
Most people I know who has gone to college doesn’t actually get the job that they’ve earned a degree in. I’d rather hire people who have experience and is dedicated to the job. People will stay at any job that they love and enjoy doing everyday. Experiences is more important.
Please go to parents meetings 🤓🥳
Are you telling me he’s wrong?!
Agree! Only 10-20% content is useful at Jobs
A degree is an evidence of basic ability. Millions got jobs with basic degree. As not many with gifted exception ability like Gates & E. Musk 🤓😀🤣
Nice
Then why do they ask for Ivy League schools on their employees' CVs? elonmusk btw, hire me.
I really don't understand the war against college degrees. It is obvious given that I have one.
College is mostly a scam, kids are easily baited into debt.
Why do SpaceX and Tesla job reqs require “advanced degrees from top university”?
I think that applies for certain colleges, but I think environment plays a key role in success.certain schools give kids that environment being able to be in a environment full of forward thinking smart young people when your one is great advantage to have.
musk is largely a headcase imo but you shouldn't need a bachelors for a cubicle job.
It obviously depends on the major. Maybe can learn coding on your own, but who wants doctors or engineers without formal education? Most engineering positions at SpaceX require degrees
My teenager has been saying this since 7th grade
My undergrad was basically that.
gary614thomas I agree
Yups. Just to show you that you are bold, thick, resilient enough as a disciplined and obedient circus animal. Esp if you got all As. Funny how prestigious universities have the thrist for the most obidient and dull circus animals.
So true. 0 rewards for creativity, breakthroughs, and innovations. And look at the archaic so called academic papers. 5 percent content 95 percent BS.
Context is important. Steve Jobs had Steve Wozniak to help him. An engineer with a degree to start Apple. Steve Jobs was just a great Marketer essentially. Bill Gates already was familiar with code as he learned it in high school.
Of course. Any organized education isn't to teach humans. Not today.
That is not true ... Academic program is system approach to provide foundation and prepare a person for the future.. os now left to the person .. what they build in this foundation.. what support the society provide for them to succeed in the building
🙄
He’s not wrong. Society would be much better served if we focused as much on a child from 0-5 than college, after that the die is 90% cast
Not wrong
He's right.
