The events follow a growing storm of criticism about the government's communications strategy during the outbreak. Briefings that the government was aiming for "herd immunity" and other major developments in the UK's response being briefed out to select journalists have triggered heavy criticism from both the government's opponents as well as privately from Johnson's own side.
