The South African Police Service says it is concerned about videos going viral of officers allegedly using excessive force on people who contravene the lockdown regulations SABCNews

Videos of police using excessive force on civilians have emerged on social media since the lockdown came into effect last week.

“We have impressed upon our members on the ground to act within the confines of the law; in enforcing the disaster management regulations. The regulations clearly outlines the actions that security forces may enforce or impose on the alleged transgressors. And the depiction in the circulation of the videos is definitely not one of the actions as outlined in the disaster management regulations,” says Naidoo.

of a resident as his home on Monday. It is alleged that a scuffle ensued after EMPD officers tried to arrest people who were drinking liquor at a local tavern, flouting the lockdown regulations. Mayoral Spokesperson Phakamile Mbengashe, says, “The Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Mzwandile Masina has today, called for calm in the City following the fatal shooting of a civilian in Vosloorus on Sunday, 29 March 2020. The South African Police Service and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate are currently investigating the matter.”

Use excessive force its the only language, they understand. The President has clearly explained why the country needs this lock down but they keep playing dumb beat them and install the fear of God in them.

Concerned that the videos are going viral or that your cops are beating SAfricans....🤔

People must realize that how big economical sacrifice government has made in order to save lives, IF NOT FOLLOWED PROPERLY EVERY THING WILL BE RUINED AND SECRIFICE WILL BE WASTED PresidencyZA ewnupdates CyrilRamaphosa BE TUFF PLEASE

Its good they recording such events but what is strange is that they never record criminals or give information to the relevant authorities

We are nt stupid,if its nt these officers taking videos then who is? Ths is a lockdown situation where no one is allowed to be on the streets nd they are charged with the responsibility of ensuring tht. So who else can take the videos? Pure logic

You see the difference, the SABC shows police in nice fitted, clean uniforms and well trained slim policemen. And the reality ?

They should be concerned about the behaviour or the individual police person or soldier.

Criminals knows that they are protected by rights and they take advantage of that. (Our police are not protected) even people from other countries are taking advantage of that. Please protect our police.

Please stop sending our poor police officers to the streets if you don't want them to protect themselves against Criminals. Have you guys seen the video of those Metro police women who were beaten up and have their weapons taken?

Some of this police they are not trained,I’m wondering how they got hired,,if was a rubber that’s fine ,not will real ammunitions

Black people will be killed by these crooks than the virus

You should be concerned! Making a human being rollling in mud!!!!! Injuring children while apprehending or sorry shooting the 40 year old..You have the authority ans gun especially the TRAINING..So what is your excuse.POWER? YOU NOT GOD AND SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!

The day people start dying in big numbers. Our people will start complaining that our government fail to enforce the lockdown. South Africans need to start respecting the law and stop fighting with our police. The poor police are risking their lives for us and we fighting them.

Only if people were Respecting what the president has said we wouldn't be facing such cases but guess wht we are facing it bcz people are trying by all means to practice their Rights where it doesn't fit at all, nd mind you Law Enforcers are not saints they are also human.

Are they concerned more concerned about the videos going viral instead of being concerned about their armed forces' actions of brutality?

Concerned...that's all?

They can't beat people and think nobody will know. This is 2020 we using technology to capture the type of abuse, it's not like in the 80s

To be honest, I would rather have these videos trend than have the videos of people dying in crowded hospitals from what could’ve been prevented.

these Police are suppose to proctect us not to kill us 😔😔

this is sad guys 😢😔

IamZuluboy once said ' Blue uniform, power abuser '

They are concerned! They should do sth about, the government has access to our cellphone data, use it to combat war in all directions.

Power abuse on poor South Africans shame on you

Concerned about videos ? Really guys, am I smelling censorship right there,

Don't bother abt vidoes of ppl breaking the law. Continue bcz its wide spread that South African Law is weak so give it some strength nyana

And what are they doing about it

It should be concerned. It should also be identifying civil rights abusers and taking appropriate action.

They must just stop the nonsense that's it. Their behavior is not acceptable at all.

The truth hurts🤪🤪🤪

Don't know why they are surprised, they always operate like that. They just got caught now

We're going to be killed by police here not CoviD-19

i am sure SAPS is concerned....so it should be

We also concerned on how matters are being addressed.Police are taking the law into their own hands by brutally beating up ppl, instead of just arresting those who go against the GOV. & r ignorant to COVID19

I don't blame them. Look at what is happening in Italy, because of ignorance. We also don't want to be in the same situation. They should hit so hard.

Truth shall be spoken. South Africans are being ignorant to this lockdown. They are continuing with their ups and downs spreading the virus like no body's business. If they don't care about themselves, they should not affect others.

The good thing is that people are filming them. If it was just a rumours without exhibit they'd deny it. So now the ball is on the hands of IPID to play. Imagine how many people are being harassed and abused by police officers in the streets, where there's videos.

Kanti who is SAPS? Aren’t those people doing those things, the SAPS ? I don’t get get it, so SAPS is concerned that SAPS is using excessive force? How? The police officers are not SAPS? what’s going on ? Is there SAPS 1 and 2 ?

There is a double standard of treatment from the police.. Blacks are being violated and White's are being treated as humans

And we know who is in charge of IPID... Not holding our breaths for anything remotely resembling justice. MagoosBar

Are they concerned about videos or they are concerned about the action of SAPS using disproportionate force on citizens?

They must stop using excessive force then

People also need to cooperate or Elsie we are all going to die. Look at Us, italy, Spain, wats happening there it doesn't kill to listen and stay at home we are doing this for us

By the way, you want Police to negotiate with people who defy President's orders? What's so special about them? Police is protecting them from their stupid ignorance too...

Abashawe! Ppl now don't fear the cops. The cops must moer.

Also those ones should trend
