Auditor-general Tsakani Maluleke revealed yesterday that more than 1,500 directors of companies that do business with the state benefited from the state's welfare grants meant for the poor. “The matter requires further investigation and hopefully recovery from the people who benefited inappropriately,” said Maluleke.
But the comments were cold comfort for Mohamed, who said it was part of “being South African that you're exposed to being a victim of corrupt officials who benefit from funds meant for us”.
