President Joe Biden will meet with chief executives of big businesses – flanked by Vice President Kamala Harris and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen – to discuss the United States’ trillion dollar stimulus package. House Democrats rejected a Republican proposal on Monday to provide a $1,000 payment to individuals earning less than $40,000 a year and couples earning less than $80,000 a year.
Instead, the Democrats unveiled legislation that would provide $1,400 to individuals earing less than $75,000 a year and couples earning under $150,000. The president’s proposal to raise the minimum wage to $15 continued to hang in limbo, however, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed Mr Biden remained “firmly committed” to the measure. “There is a parliamentarian who will make decisions about what can end up in a final package,” she said.
