Native bees attempting to fly across patches of cleared land in Western Australia’s Kimberley region would overheat and drop dead before ever reaching the other side, unable to find food or an area to rest.
The lines are the result of seismic surveys by companies looking for oil and gas to extract and a testament to the region’s growing industry, which extends west to Broome and east to the doorstep of the Gibb River Road. “The lines are getting bigger and bigger and longer and longer. So on our country now we can go to Tasmania and back to Darwin on those lines.”A bulldozer clears native vegetation in Kurrajong. The Environmental Protection Regulations 2004 allow petroleum titleholders to clear vegetation without a permit for oil and gas exploration as long as it isn’t within an ‘environmentally sensitive area’.
Seismic surveys are carried out to find pockets of gas to frack. They use trucks to lower a plate onto the ground which generates an acoustic signal that provides information about an area’s geographical make-up.Located almost 3000 kilometres north-east of Perth, the Kimberley is one of Australia’s largest biodiversity hotspots and home to more than 65 species that are found nowhere else on Earth.

MartaPascual3 Australia termed the burnt country, should be bent country
MartaPascual3 Incredibly disgusting! All under the failed LNP federal government watch. Boot them at the election.
MartaPascual3 This is disgusting. It's bad enough we have 1799 endangered species. Australia does more land clearing than any developed nation.
MartaPascual3 I reckon LNP donor's would also be allowed to clear vegetation if they wanted to. That's how it works, isn't it? 🤔

How a gas company cleared the KimberleyFrom ground level, the Kimberley landscape appears pristine, covered by a blanket of lush woodland savannah. But from above the damage is clear: bold lines crisscross the land as far as the eye can see in a perfect grid pattern this is so damaging & destructive. it's sheer unadulterated greed & insanity that this is allowed to happen. I struggle to understand how this generation would have been able to feed or clothe itself, or shelter, if they used their parameters of today in the past? I don't think gold would have been found or coal

Star, Crown merger would be a 'company of scale' on global platform | Sky News AustraliaStar Entertainment CEO Matt Bekier says if his company merges with Crown Resorts it would create a company of scale on the global stage.\n\nThe Star Entertainment Group has proposed a $12 billion merger with Crown Resorts in a deal which would create a gambling and hospitality empire spanning across seven properties in four states.\n\nUnited States investment company Blackstone has also made a bid for the embattled casino operator after regulators suspended Crown's gaming license at its new flagship Sydney casino in February.\n\n“With this company, the combined assets will be a company of scale on the global platform,” Mr Bekier told Sky News.\n\n“When COVID lifts and travel is back that positions us really well to take full advantage.”\n\nAside from the offer price Mr Bekier said Star’s offer differs from competitors because of synergies but admitted up to 700 middle and senior management jobs would go. \n\n“We have synergies. We have estimate that there’s about $150 to $200 million of costs synergies.\n\n“We’ve been able to give guarantees to governments as well as the unions that the frontline, the customer serving staff will not be affected.\n\n“The frontline staff won’t be affected; this is really a corporate restructure.”\n Well, that's JUST what the world needs: Another multinational gambling and hospitality empire concentrating obscene amounts of wealth in the hands of a few already obscenely wealthy, morally vacuous individuals. Good stuff! Honestly, it's amazing humans have lasted this long ... Could I still launder my money though?
