PETALING JAYA: Pharmacists are not against price controls on Covid-19 self test kits, but they want the government to mandate rebates for old stocks, says the Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS).

MPS president Amrahi Buang said their main contention was not the RM19.90 retail price cap on Covid-19 self test kits, but the lack of planning by the government in providing rebates."Our main contention is the lack of planning in providing rebates to community pharmacists who have stocks with the previous cost price of RM22 to RM35, depending on brand, in the absence of a grace period,” Amrahi said.

"All we ask for is to be treated fairly. The Ministry must mandate a rebate as it has been established that the previous cost price given by suppliers can be further reduced," said Amrahi in a statement on Saturday . Amrahi added that the prices of the self-test kits also must be adjusted accordingly in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

"We would like to stress that we are here to provide service towards a healthy society as stated in our motto,” said Amrahi.
