Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says the company could do more to treat workers better

Jassy specifically called out Amazon's approach to handling pandemic sick leave as one area where the company fell short.

Speaking at the GeekWire Summit in Seattle, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said Tuesday there was more the company could do to treat employees better."It didn't work the way we wanted it to work," Jassy said.Andy Jassy, CEO Amazon Web Services, speaks at the WSJD Live conference in Laguna Beach, California, October 25, 2016.

When asked what Amazon could do better, Jassy pointed to the company's processes around pandemic leave in its warehouses. Amazon Amazon and other e-commerce companies benefited from the coronavirus-fueled surge in online orders. But the pandemic also generated unprecedented strain on Amazon's fulfillment and logistics operations and tested the company's relationship with its front-line workers, who couldn't work remotely. Amazonthat nearly 20,000 front-line workers contracted Covid-19 between March 1, 2020 and Sept. 19, 2020.
