KOTA KINABALU: Details of a carbon sales deal signed between the Sabah government and a Singapore-based company should be made public, say conservationists.

World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia said details of the Nature Conservation Agreement must be made public so as to put the concerns of all parties to rest.“We left the NCA dialogue disappointed as we now have more questions than answers on the agreement.

He said Kitingan and other government officials should at least address the concerns and issues raised in the fact sheet. “But this step must be taken properly through appropriate channels,” he said, urging the state to take another look at the terms and conditions in the NCA. “It is important to note that Sabah, with its forest policies of 50% forest cover and 30% TPA, an extremely attractive destination for carbon financing, from which it can benefit greatly.
