ABIA State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the Ministry of Trade and Investments to set up a committee to review the structural integrity of buildings in major markets in the state. Also following safety fears due to some observed structural defects, the governor also directed the immediate sealing of Blocks PK1 and PK2 in zone 11 of the Aba Cemetery Market.
Commissioner for Trade and Investments, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, who announced the directive, yesterday, said Ikpeazu expressed shock that traders were risking their lives in the dilapidated building and instructed the commissioner to ensure that the contractor, who erected the structure, should be sanctioned.
After inspecting the structure at the market, Kalu assured the traders that Ikpeazu prioritises their welfare, stressing that trade and commerce remained one of the pillars of his administration.
