Perfection cannot be the enemy of the good when it comes to securing our energy supplies – LCreighton writes.

Some 25 per cent of Europe’s oil and 40 per cent of its gas is sourced from Russia. Despite promises to start to wean European nations off it, there was little follow through. Picture: Bloomberg

The shock of so many at the decision of Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine betrayed a naivety born of decades of relative peace in Europe. The fact that no major conflict has affected the major countries of Europe since World War II allowed most citizens and politicians to believe it would ever be thus.

LCreighton Does a piece written by a lobbyist on behalf of the energy sector not have to be marked as “promotion”?

LCreighton Who she lobbying for? Does BP... Have full disclosure from her?

LCreighton This is a strange arguement given the methane is 80 times more potent than CO2 and 3% leaks from extraction to use wipes out benefits of removing coal + the energy required to liquify it… cause ppl often forget that… we may as well burn coal

LCreighton Fear by nato of them going into melt down and wiping out half of the nato alliance will ensure our protection , at the same time we will will not need to worry about energy security very very simple 2/2

LCreighton A very badly researched article on lng. The lng terminal in Shannon is nothing more than an attempt by the US to open a market for the there gas. You want energy certainty in Ireland. Build 3 nuclear reactors on the East coast of irelenad 1/2

LCreighton The EU adopted a policy of diversification in 2014. It failed miserably. Pursuing the same policy now would be unforgiveable. Ireland relies on Russia for ~0% of its gas & can readily access LNG via the UK market. This article is not based on a good knowledge of energy policy

LCreighton This is a pretty Orwellian approach to the word ‘unsustainable’. Investing in new fossil fuel infrastructure once again just passes the climate issue to the next generation to fix. The very definition of unsustainable.

LCreighton One of the costs of the coalition staying in place? QE program from ecb, undermining every economic effort towards production Not a word? WHEREISTHEFREEPRESS
