Walgreens Boots Alliance chief executive officer Roz Brewer has joined the board of VillageMD, which is developing hundreds of doctor-staffed clinics connected to Walgreens drugstores across the U.S.

of the private equity firm Health Evolution Partners, have taken seats on the primary care company’s board of directors.

“Roz and David each bring a unique perspective to the ways we can deliver a better experience for our physicians and patients, and I’m excited to work with them as we continue the transformation of our nations’ healthcare system,” VillageMD chief executive and chairman Tim Barry said. “Our country needs the best and brightest solving our healthcare crisis and we have the opportunity to bring high-quality, accessible care to millions of Americans in their communities.

Brailer is known nationally for his work in health information technology and was National Coordinator for Health Information Technology within the Department of Health and Human Services during President George W. Bush’s administration from May 2004 to April 2006. The announcement about Brewer and Brailer joining VillageMD’s board comes with Walgreens now holding a 63% stake in VillageMD.

Walgreens is opening a new VillageMD clinic attached to a drugstore on average “every three days” this year.
