Beautiful, quiet sedan loaded with features and an impressive electric powertrain, but a hefty price gap with the similar gas-powered G80Hyundai’s fancy Electrified G80 arrives looking largely like its all-gas sibling, rather than putting a futuristic spin on design and branding like some carmakers.tax credits
The Electrified G80 combines motors front and rear for a potent 365 horsepower, 516 pound-feet of torque and range up to 282 miles. Genesis puts zero-to-60 time at 4.9 seconds in Sport Mode. Charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 22 minutes on a fast charger, about 7.5 on a Level 2 unit, which electric buyers typically install at home. The vehicle also can be a power source for tools and toys. And, Genesis offers three years of free charging at Electrify America stations.
Inside, the vehicle is luxurious and modern with some materials chosen for sustainability. The premium Lexicon sound system benefits from the car’s quiet demeanor. Soft leather front buckets are comfy as is the rear bench, but going electric cuts into passenger space, especially rear head and legroom versus the gas-powered G80.
So how does G80 compare with other luxury electric sedans? Price is attractive compared to similarly sized offerings from Tesla and Audi, but Tesla boasts range up to 405 miles for its S. BMW’s I4 starts in the high 50s but is considerably smaller while its I7 is much larger and moves into six figures along with Mercedes-Benz EQS. Polestar2 with its practical sedan/hatchback design also is smaller and not as fancy starting just under 50K.
