America depends on semiconductors manufactured in Taiwan and South Korea. But most of these factories are uncomfortably close to either China or North Korea

Save time by listening to our audio articles as you multitaska telecoms giant, invented the transistor, a switch that controls electric current and is a building block of modern electronics. Within a decade researchers were placing several transistors on a slab of silicon to make an “integrated circuit”, or chip. A thriving industry grew up around California, outsourcing low-value tasks, such as assembly, to Asia where labour was cheaper.

As the market grew, so did interest from America’s rivals. First, the Soviet Union tried and failed to replicate Silicon Valley. Later, Japanese firms such as Toshiba and Fujitsu managed to take a share of some chip markets. But the strategic danger comes from China, which today spends more on importing chips than it does on oil. Xi Jinping, the president, has ordered China’s tech titans to reduce its dependence on foreign chips; state funds dole out tens of billions a year to that end.

US may disturb the Chinese semiconductor sector but they will never be able to suppress the idea of semiconductor from the Chinese people mind. And this is the game changer.

Love how Americans reduce other countries to their resources: Iraq is oil. Chile is lithium and copper. Botswana is diamonds and now South Korea and Taiwan are semiconductors. Capitalism and how much it values humanity!

Yes this is true news but its half truth &full truth is, America wants destabilise Taiwan because if Taiwan destabilise whatever any reason then proved to own American made semiconductor please Taiwan people's china is your friend not enemy&sit on table &resolve own issues

I don't see a war coming there soon.

Build the semiconductor factories here 🇺🇸

They used to call it Globalization.

Having an idea, placing a bet, and keeping the faith is how the chip industry prevailed. A lot of hard work leads to amazing things.

If LulaOficial and jairbolsonaro were concerned about Brazil, they would be keeping an eye on it!

'uncomfortably close' or 'imported from and repackaged'?
