By Year UpGianella Cruz faced steep challenges during the pandemic. Today, this hardworking Year Up Bay Area alumna is fully committed to growth and adding value to her team. And she’s passionate about helping others connect to meaningful job opportunities.

Despite the loss and setbacks, Cruz kept moving forward. On the advice of friends, she joined Year Up, where she finally found the direction and support she longed for. She knew she could count on her Year Up program manager to answer questions about her training. Likewise, student services was there to help when she was struggling with personal hardships.

“Year Up changed my world. You can always say there are more opportunities out there. But by showing us how to access these opportunities, you create tremendous hope,” explained Cruz.Year Up, which began in 2000, is a tuition-free job training program that connects young adults, ages 18-29 years old, to internships with major employers where many students move into full-time roles.
