Phoenix is down more than 30 spots from where it was two years ago in the annual rankings.

Noted for its rapid growth, arts, urban planning and — of course — sunshine, Phoenix is still one of the world’s top metros according to Residence Consultancy’s World’s Best Cities 2023 list, albeit with a lower ranking.

That meant Phoenix was in more fierce competition for its spot in the rankings, which looked at the principal cities in the world’s 100 largest metropolitan areas. For the Valley, the clincher was the metro’s growing arts scene, as exemplified by such places as the Roosevelt Row Arts District.
