Queensland has the motivation to decarbonise rapidly as climate disasters have cost it about $30 billion between 1979 and 2019, more than any other state.

Queensland’s carbon emissions targets are likely to become more ambitious, but coal exports will last “as long as the market dictates”, the premier says.

Palaszczuk is still reluctant to set more ambitious emissions targets, but she’s indicated they will change as more renewable generation is switched on. The decarbonisation plan doesn’t mention coal exports, which are the state’s biggest contributor to global climate change. Deputy Premier Steven Miles said coal from those mines would be needed to make steel for renewable energy generation parts, which the government wanted to do domestically.

“The combustion of which will cause harm to the environment in and the people of Queensland, wherever the combustion occurs,” the ruling said.

We have all the cheap base-load energy in the world on our door step but these muppets want to export our resources to other countries. Meanwhile we the tax payer must wear the high cost burden of unreliable wind farm and solar energy. 🤡🤡🤡 AnnastaciaMP

the premier is a hypocrite She is addicted to coal royalty but she can not build enough hosp beds They approved solar farms n windmills as window dressing to cover up the coal export addiction
