The President, Major General Muhanmadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday sought the legalisation and institutionalisation of the Social Investment Programme in Nigeria.

The Senate was also requested to create ten new national parks throughout the country through different letters. Buhari on the Social Investment Programme requested the Senate to consider and approve an executive bill forwarded to it to that effect.

He explained in the letter read in plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, that consideration and passage of the bill would provide the enabling law for effective implementation of the programme geared towards poverty alleviation of vulnerable Nigerians. He said, “The National Social Investment Programme Establishment Bill seeks to provide a legal and institutional framework for the establishment of the NSIP for the assistance and empowerment of the poor and vulnerable people in Nigeria.”

After turning 133 million Nigerians into poverty, you want to legalise it. Who does that? Who legalises a vehicle for poverty?

This is something Mr President would have pushed for a long time ago & it would have been done. A good call though at a wrong time.
