The story for many years in St. Johns County — and especially since the recovery from the last recession — has been growth.
Some of those approvals go back a decade or two or even longer. In the last 10 years or so, many of those projects have become active. That's helped St. Johns County go from a population of less than 200,000 in 2010 to close to 300,000 now. There is still lots of development, to be sure. SilverLeaf was able to expand by more than 5,000 homes, and the 3,500-home development Greenbriar Helow gained approval. But many projects have been voted down, mostly due to traffic concerns and/or compatibility issues.
