The index was on track for a weekly gain of more than 1.8 percent, its largest since September.

Against the Japanese yen, the dollar climbed 0.7 percent to hit 134.45 yen, its highest level in over a week. Data from Germany, France, Italy and Spain have already showed a slowdown in inflation last month, suggesting that euro zone consumer prices should have eased in December.
