“I do recognize what’s on the line here, I know that these decisions affect your livelihood,” Eby said Thursday before a full house during the leader’s luncheon at the B.C. Truck Loggers Association convention. That fund bore its first fruit Friday, with a $4.5 million contribution, along with $14.3 million from the federal government, to a $50 million retooling of papermaking machinery at Paper Excellence’s Crofton pulp and paper mill allowing it to reopen for the production of single-use cutlery and bring back 100 idled workers.

“Somehow getting past uncertainty in all the facets that we’re dealing with” is more important to the industry. “Be it lack of permits or no permits, an underperforming B.C.
