France’s powerful unions are coming out in force for a nationwide strike

Thursday in a rejection of a controversial retirement age reform that the government pushed through parliament last week without a vote. Though sporadic, sometimes unruly demonstrations have popped up in Paris and other cities across France since the bill’s passage, Thursday will mark the first day of coordinated action since then. It is also the ninth day of strikes since the bill was introduced in January.

“The best response we can give the President of the Republic is by having millions of people on strike and on the roads,” Philippe Martinez, the head of one of France’s two largest unions, said on French TV channel LCI. The country’s generous pension system and early retirement have long been a point of pride since they were enacted after World War II. The retirement age for most workers under the new law will be 64, still one of the lowest in the industrialized world.

We must say things well Emmanuel Macron, the first French dictator since Marshal Pétain!

That’s what happens when govts turn into a dictatorship, much like America has been doing the past couple years. I only hope this is america in the coming days

جمہوريت

Macron should have done what Reagan did, just increase the taxes used to pay for those programs.

I support people's right to strike for what they believe in, but I just hope the baguettes still get delivered on time.

French people should not have to work Everything should be paid for by the government Right?

Ile siku utanipata nikikucheat jua nmejua unanicheat

There is power in numbers. Good for them

French are not helpful to their economy 😒 The whole world retires at least up to their 65th year except for France 🇫🇷

Will they succeed?

Revolution!! (thanks you America)

the guillotine is such a nasty device; yet French workers do have more benefits than most other civilized countries

RIP

Govts job is balancong interests. Rich ha e ot good while workers wgite and blue collat not so much. Macron a former banker has no empathy for working class. Worker pushback overdue. This wealth model keeps families poor
